Contraceptive pills have proven to be quite effective in preventing women from getting pregnant. The pills can be either of the two, combination pills or mini-pills. Combination pills are those which consist of two artificial female hormones, oestrogen and progestogen. Mini-pills, on the other hand, consist of only one artificial female hormone, progestogen. This pill consists of ethinylestradiol, synthetic oestrogen, and drospirenone, synthetic progestogen, as its active ingredients. Yasmin prevents pregnancy in women by tricking the body into believing that ovulation has already occurred. This helps in preventing the production of an egg. Secondly, it thickens the cervical mucus in your womb so as to prevent a sperm from entering and fertilising an egg.

And lastly, the pill alters the womb lining so that, an egg if produced and fertilised, cannot attach and grow further. You are required to take Yasmin contraceptive pill for 21 days of your 28 day menstrual cycle. You are then to take a break of seven days before starting a new pack, during which you are likely to have your periods. Another popular combination pill commonly used by women across the globe is Microgynon. This pill consists of ethinylestradiol, synthetic oestrogen, and levonorgestrel, synthetic progestogen, as its active ingredients. You are required to take Microgynon for 21 days of your 28 day menstrual cycle.
